The creator of these fine cars was none other than Bruce McLaren. Bruce started racing in his home of New Zealand in the early 1950’s. After racing several makes of cars as a privateer, he would form his own team by the end of1963 and by the end of 1964would start to build his own F1 cars. The first McLaren M1A Sports car was first tested at Goodwood during the Summer of 1964 and made its racing debut at Mosport in the Fall of 1964. The M1A was the beginning of what was to be a long line of thoroughbredsports cars. Despite the dominate winning ways of the 1967 McLaren M6A, Bruce McLaren and Denny Hulme would bring a newly designed Can-Am car for the 1968 season. The new McLaren M8A adorned many new improvements over the older M6A including a new lighter and stronger monocoque and a new all alloy big block 427 engine. Gone was the heavily stressed steel structure behind the seat bulkhead. The engine and transmission now served as the common mounting point for all rear suspension and other related components. Despite adding the big block engine over the small block, the M8A would weigh in almost 100 pounds lighter than the previous1967 M6A.

For the 1968 Can-Am season, Bruce McLaren would score two victories in the six-race season. Bruce's two wins would not be enough to win the 1968,Can-Am season. However, the 3 wins by his teammate Denny Hulme would be enough to bring McLaren cars its second consecutive Can-Am championship. This highly detailed/ limited edition replica is hand crafted after the M8A piloted to victory by Bruce McLaren during the 1968 Riverside L. A. Times Can-Am Race.
